Head Teacher's Welcome
8th January 2021
I hope you and your family are safe and well. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Hafod Primary School. I am delighted that my first headship is here at Hafod. I am very proud to say that I have lived in this community, having actually attended the old Hafod School as a child. Therefore, I have a very good understanding of the area and Hafod is a place extremely close to my heart.
It goes without saying I am passionate about providing our pupils with a world class education - all of them - regardless of any barriers they face! I will never settle for anything less because your children deserve the absolute best and I will do everything in my power to deliver that! I will ensure that with all stakeholders to create a school that your children are desperate to attend - a place they feel safe and happy, excited and enthralled! A school where they can securely and proudly learn, laugh and live together!
I am sure some parents are understandably nervous about the change of their children having a new Headteacher. Although this is my first Headteacher post I have had significant experience as Acting Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. I qualified as a teacher back in 1995. During my 25 years of teaching, my enthusiasm and passion for education have remained undiminished. Many of these years have been spent teaching and leading at St Helen’s Primary School, a school that attained an excellent report during their last inspection. I want to reassure you that moving forward, any changes made at Hafod Primary School, will only be made for the best interest of the children, and will be communicated with you in advance with clear reasons given.
My school’s vision and aims are embedded in my own personal beliefs. I am committed to ensuring inclusion and addressing diversity. I have an extremely strong moral compass and an unshakeable belief in social justice. I relish seeking opportunities to celebrate differences and strive to provide an ethos where we all treat each other equally. The well-being of every child should be at the heart of the school. I aim to provide an environment where all pupils can feel secure and valued and where they are fully engaged in their learning.
I consistently expect the highest standards of achievement and behaviour, ensuring well established routines are in place. All children need to be inspired and feel proud to voice their ideas, feeling confident all opinions will be respected. Knowledge of their rights and taking responsibility for their actions, are crucial components to ensure children grow up healthy, happy and safe.
I endeavour to develop pupils with a skill set that enables them to work both independently and collaboratively with others. I aim to empower children to become well-rounded, reflective learners and respectful members of the community. My aspiration for all children is that we should provide them with a platform on which they can develop a passion for learning and are equipped with the necessary skills to make informed and ethical decisions that will bring out the best in every child.
Thus, enabling them not just to aspire, but to be resourceful and have the resilience to be prepared to face the challenges of an ever-changing world. Ultimately, my main concern is the health and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and families at these difficult times.
From my experience I know that a successful and happy school depends on all of us working together. I endeavour to create a team spirit and an extended family. I have always been proud of the positive relationships I have developed with families. I am keen to meet parents and carers, to give you an opportunity to say hello and also ask any questions you may have. I cannot wait for the school to start operating on a more ‘normal’ basis so that I can start to plan hosting a number of events which will provide an opportunity to meet you all. Once it is safe to do so, I will arrange for these meetings to take place at different times of the day, which I hope most families will be able to attend.
In the meantime I am sending out a parent questionnaire to give you an opportunity to share your views and opinions with me. The link to complete this questionnaire is
I am so excited to meet all the children and for us to start operating on a more normal basis. Next week I will send out a short video to introduce myself to your child/ren via dojo. I will also make sure you are informed of any changes regarding the return to school. I look forward to meeting you over the coming weeks, even if it has to be wearing a mask and socially distanced!
You can be assured that as Headteacher, I will strive to create the best education for your child/children whilst they are members of our school family. If you have any concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone call.
I hope that I can count on your support as we move forward.
Please keep safe.
With best wishes,
Mrs N. Fredrickson
Headteacher from January 2021
